Mary Ann Burk
Elements in nature are a steady source of inspiration for my work. As a potter, I am continually fascinated by the ever-changing patterns and textures in the natural world. I strive to create forms that echo the subtle details found in nature. My stoneware forms are hand thrown or hand built, carved, torn, pressed and paddled as if to mimic the effects of sun, water, and wind. The crackle glazes are used to reflect the gnarled imperfections and beauty of weathered wood. I use a repertoire of colorful glazes reminiscent of flowers, leaves, mosses and lichen. My hope is that when one uses my work it reminds them of the ever-changing details and simplicity of nature's beauty.
