My pottery is primarily wheel-thrown, then decorated with colorful underglazes. It is fully functional––water-tight, food safe, microwave and dishwasher safe. Some pieces are mainly decorative (such as the vases and planters), whereas others can be used every day for serving food. For some time, I have been exploring decorating with banding –– using vibrant color underglazes and adding color as the piece turns on the wheel. I enjoy experimenting with different color combinations. For some pieces I apply underglaze to leather hard clay, then use sgraffito tools to carve designs. My decorative pieces are fired to maturity without a clear glaze to preserve the matte appearance. Bowls, mugs, and plates for food use are glazed with a clear or celadon glaze before the final firing. All my pieces are fired to cone 5.
