Jeffrey Stricker
Having worked with a variety of woods and metals in the building trades, I am interested in bringing their strengths together in new forms. Steel and aluminum provide great strength with minimal bulk, and are regular in shape, so welding these together creates a slender, dependable structure. The variety and softness of wood provide a surface that is infinitely interesting to look at and touch, so this provides the surface that we interact with.
Tables and benches are where we eat and work, and they bring their own personalities to these times.
Beyond these practicalities, I want to incorporate both science fiction and humor in my work. A solid form floating over a slender one looks to me as if it is ready to launch itself skyward, and the visual contrast between the materials is always good for a smile.
