Indigo Hills Pottery
I enjoy altering much of my wheel-thrown work. I leverage the plastic qualities of clay to capture a sense of fluidity and softness that comes from subtly modifying the geometry of my forms. My interest lies in preserving the moment when the altered shape takes form. To punctuate the fluidity of a wheel-thrown piece, I introduce precise linear cuts and folds. This approach allows me to capture the volumetric tension of a shape, adding a degree of movement and gesture. Rooted in function, my pottery offers a unique solution to kitchenware for your home.
My glaze palette draws inspiration from the breathtaking mountain landscape surrounding Charlottesville. It features a harmonious blend of blues and greens, complemented by purple and plum hues. These colors vary in intensity, from deep and dark to pale and bright, but always inspiring. The glazes not only render my work functional but also enhance the character of each form.
