Christina Boy
My path as a furniture maker was sparked by an early fascination with Bauhaus and Scandinavian design, which led me to VCU's acclaimed Craft and Material Studies program and afterwards to a two-year fellowship at the Penland School of Craft. I returned to Virginia to establish my studio in Madison where the Bauhaus philosophy of “less is more” gets merged with the inspiration I draw from my rural environment. The textures, patterns, and colors of the Madison landscape—from fields in precise rows to the weathered patina on old farm buildings—are translated into the compelling use of texture and layered color in my furniture.
