Becky Garrity
Through our semi-annual clay camps, several beloved sister-potters who are also pottery teachers experiment and play with techniques and ideas that we have discovered. Taking time to play together with clay leads to something new in our individual work. Among other things, I’ve learned that faceting and stretching the clay walls of a form can create a tactile-rich compelling surface. Texture that invites touch is eternally attractive! As you study my new work, you may encounter thick finger-painted slip, dimples, spirals and other disruptions alongside my traditional carving. As always, my pots function as intended and maintain an aesthetic that is pleasing. My work includes serving bowls, berry bowls, platters, pitchers, teapots, vases, lamps, and much more. And, of course, lots of mugs…
All-in-all, I endeavor to learn and grow each day as a potter. The many mysteries of clay: throwing; decorating; glazing; and firing; keep me engaged, but you keep me inspired!
